It’s All In The Details

I'm of the opinion that the living spaces of today should express a feeling of emotional comfort as well as authenticity in design.  It seems to be what we need right now when our home is often our refuge and entertaining at home is growing more and more important.

As designers, we bring our expertise in architecture and design elements "to the table".  (No pun intended!)  This knowledge provides the underpinnings or "bones", as we say, to the job.   Well-planned and executed architecture elevates the overall aesthetic.  But equally valuable is our insight and point of view about the decorative arts.   I believe this area is what makes a space more natural, teases the senses, and provides a clue into our clients' tastes.

What element blinds these two ideas together?  What happens to produce a beautiful, tastefully appointed home that appears effortlessly pulled together, yet fulfills daily needs of a family?  An attention to DETAIL!

Many people think of "details" as trim and pattern, and that CAN be beautiful.

I think a meticulous attention to scale and proportion is vital and can even have a sense of humor!

And a varying of textures can provide a great casual feel.

A play of color can give a lift to a home office.

Or give sparkle to an otherwise, functional space.

In the end, the designer's attention to detail in architecture and decoration combines to create "joie de vivre" for a client's everyday living and special entertaining moments.
