Designer Kayla Vig’s Summer Must-Haves

The summer season is short here in Minnesota, so it’s best to take advantage of every summery day.  Designer Kayla Vig shares her favorite summer must-haves.  Enjoy!

Nothing is more refreshing than a glass of cold cucumber water on a hot summer day.

A great area rug that works just a well inside as it does outside

Summer = sandals = pedicure

An outdoor serving cart – whether you are entertaining friends and family or just a relaxing evening at home.

A state map for those last minute weekend road trips. Spontaneous trips are the trip that are most memorable!

Sheer window coverings – light and fresh while allowing just the right amount of summer sun to shine through.

Glamping – Enjoying the outdoors with a touch of glamour!  Who said camping had to mean roughing it.

A great pair of fun summer shades, great for any situation.

Friends and family – summer time is best when shared with friends and family.

Designer Karen McKay’s Favorite Summer Must-Haves

Does anything beat a Minnesota summer… I don’t think so. Now that it’s Memorial Day and we’re officially into summer season, these are the items I have been thinking about as summer approaches.

Bright Prints – For years I have been in love with Perennials outdoor stripe fabrics and they have just come out with a wonderful line of graphic prints to liven up outdoor living spaces.

Sun Protection – I have learned over the years to take care of my skin. I no longer leave the house without a good dose of sunscreen.

Gardening –  Summers mean fresh vegetables and gardens, unfortunately I have a black thumb so I frequent local farmers markets. The colors alone could inspire a design palette.

A Go-Anywhere Tote – And I love that this one is in the season’s hottest stripes.

Hydration – I happen to love this reusable camelback bottle and it’s better for the environment than disposable plastic bottles.

Hand Blown Glass Pendants – They are light and airy and will freshen up any kitchen or bar.

A Nice Hat – A packable sunhat that I can take anywhere that offers sun protection and is stylish.

Natural Gas Burning Fire Bowl – An evening relaxing around the fire, no wood to chop, no logs to stoke, just sit back and enjoy.

A Good Book – Forget iPads, Nooks, Kindles…the summer calls for a good old fashioned paperback that I can roll back the pages and curl up to.

Relaxation – The hammock is a summer dream…need I say more.
