No Postage Necessary

Tracing back to Tom's roots in Fargo, we came across these colorful postcards from Black Interiors. Blacks Interiors was Tom's first interior design firm which he purchased in 1962… Our bet is these modern but slightly groovy postcards dated back to around then. We are assuming these were used to send to clients on birthdays, holidays and any day that required celebration. Truth be told, I wish we had found more, I would love to send these out to friends and family. Postcards1 Postcard3

Remembering Tom Gunkelman

Tom Gunkelman

Tom Gunkelman, named "Dean of Design" by the Star Tribune passed away on Saturday, May 21st, surrounded by family, friends and staff. We are deeply saddened and will miss him dearly.

His talent was extraordinary for which he won many awards and accolades, such as being named one of the "Top 100 Designers" by House Beautiful magazine for several years in a row and named "Top 50 Designers" by Elements magazine. He also received numerous ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) Awards throughout the years including the "ASID Pursuit of Excellence Award" and "Designer of Distinction".

But, it was Tom's love of people, travel, and life in general that also defined who he was. He treated his staff like his family and in return we thought of him as part of our own families as well. Tom enjoyed a party and never missed a celebration. So in return, we celebrate his life.

Please feel free to leave an enjoyable memory you may have of Tom in the comments below. We'd love to hear the stories.

Things are not what they seem

Yesterday our rep from Maharam came in to show all things new. A product that was rather interesting, In my opinion was the collection, Maharam Digital Projects.Which is a curated assemblage of large scale digitally printed wall installations which are created by emerging and established artist, illustrator and photographers. From far away you see an overall pattern but close up there is so much more.

My favorite was titled Recycled stripes. From a distance it read as a striped pattern but up close it was repeats of all things recycled, ie: cups, plastic silverware, paper.  Unfortunately I cannot find it on-line anywhere so you will have to use your imagination and check back frequently on the Maharam website.

Not for everyone I know, but it is creative and unique!
